Rice and Noodles in Magelangan
"Here, it's your order a magelangan."
One portion of magelangan wrapped in wax paper food is a menu that I order. It just costs Rp10.000 for magelangan in my place.

If you're wondering about magelangan. It's a famous food that is served in the warung like burjo or warmindo. Magelangan is a mix between nasi goreng and noodles, some people also call it nasi mawut.
Yes, nasi goreng and noodles. You're not wrong. Fried rice and noodles. Double carbs, I know. But it's common here to find people eating rice and noodles together.
Noodles are categorized as side dishes sometimes. So for some Indonesians, it's not a meal if we don't have rice on our plate.

Magelangan, fried egg, cucumbers, and some chilies for my dinner. Photo by restyu. |
I got magelangan, fried egg, two sliced cucumbers, and some bird eyes chilies for my dinner. Magelangan isn't only a mix between rice and noodles, it has scrambled egg, cabbage, spring onion, and fried shallots in it.
It tastes like usual nasi goreng with extra noodles. Somehow, I find magelangan is a bit sweeter than nasi goreng for me. Some spices taste slightly savory on the scrambled egg and veggies, maybe they add a tiny bit of sambal when cooking it.
For adding the spiciness level, I just bite one bird's bird's eyes chili. It's small but the spicy already gives me a kick. Thanks to the sliced cucumbers give freshness and tone down a bit the spiciness and oily flavor. Not forgetting the fried egg that adds a bit of saltiness and crunchiness to every bite.
When I eat magelangan, I just realize that rice and noodles aren't a bad combination. I'm not someone whoputswho puts rice on every meal, but hey trying something like this isn't a bad idea. Maybe I will order magelangan again if I have a chance.
