Tempe mendoan. It's one of my favorite food that highlight tempeh. Tempe mendoan is famous food in Banyumas, Central Java.
Sometimes it's called mendoan for short. The word mendoan is from Javanese Banyumas' dialect mendo which means half-cooked.
The tempeh is battered with flour and cooked really fast in hot oil. So, the result is the tempeh is cooked while the color is still pale white.

If you ask me what's the best way to enjoy mendoan? My answer is to eat it while still hot! Don't forget to add a little bit of sweet soy sauce and don't forget to take a bite of bird eyes chili!
Well, sometimes I do eat tempe mendoan with ketupat as my dinner. Why? Because it's delish, cheap, and more importantly fills up my tummy!
