Tempe in Indonesian is written as tempeh in English. I watch some videos on YouTube that most people cook tempeh without seasoning it before frying it. I spontaneously said, "Excuse me, that's not how to cook the tempeh!"
So, here I'm gonna tell you how to enjoy tempeh as an Indonesian. As you know due to the vast area of Indonesian, we have many dishes that use tempeh. But for now, I'll just talk about how I enjoy fried tempeh.
First of all, don't you ever fry tempeh without seasoning it! Give some seasoning first before frying it!
The seasoning depends on your taste. Here in Indonesia, we usually use garlic, coriander seeds, and salt. If you want something quick and simple just chicken powder or mushrooms powder.
I usually add a bit of flour to my fried tempeh. So, it's still moist and not too dry. But, it still depends on your preference.
I cook my tempeh until it's golden brown. Then served it on the plate. Believe me, eating tempeh when it's still warm is the best choice.
Anyway, I will also share how to serve basic tempe goreng in my style. So, I usually served tempeh for protein in my side dish.

Don't have an egg for your instant noodle? Chill, tempeh is the best choice then. I sometimes serve my Indomie Goreng with fried tempeh, shallots, and tomato as the toppings. Not forget to put a bit of mayonnaise, sambal sauce, and chili flakes too.
It's a simple dish but never fails me. The tempeh gives more texture and is combined well with Indomie. Uh well, Indomie suits with anything not gonna lie.

Next is another dish for my breakfast. Rice, fried tempeh, carrot pickles, and fresh shallots on top. The sauce is mayonnaise, tomato ketchup, and a few chili flakes.
You need to believe me that tempeh suits with mayonnaise! It tastes so good that you can taste a bit creamy from mayonnaise. The pickles add acidity and freshness too.
To be honest, fried tempeh also has the best combo with sambal and peanut sauce. Maybe, I'll write about it later since I don't have peanut sauce for now.
