Orak-Arik The Next Level of My Usual Scrambled Egg

Egg. Telur. Endog. It's a common protein to be used in our meals.

I know many dishes from eggs. I've talked a little about it here. But for now, let's talk about another favorite dish from an egg.

Orak-arik. If I translate it into English, orak-arik means scrambled. It should be written as telur orak-arik which means scrambled egg but we end up shortening it as orak-arik.

Let's talk about orak-arik from burjo. Burjo is a famous warung that sells instant noodles, drinks, and other dishes. It's famous for the cheap price but the taste is still good.

I find orak-arik from burjo somehow is different from the orak-arik that I've cooked so far. It has a unique taste and texture. So, not gonna lie I enjoy it more than the usual orak-arik.

During the pandemic, I crave orak-arik from burjo. Since I'm too lazy to go out for buying it. I end up learning how to cook orak-arik from the internet. And somehow I find the right recipe that suits me the best.

Egg, sambal, bok choy, tomato, and garlic for the ingredients. Meanwhile, the seasonings are oyster sauce, kecap manis, spicy ketchup, salt, white pepper, and chicken powder. Simple ingredients and seasoning that I can afford at home.

Just toss the ingredients on the pan. Cook it with the seasoning for like 7 minutes. Then serve it on the plate with warm rice, krupuk, and sprinkles of sliced shallots on top. Tada, you get one orak-arik that looks like from burjo now.

It has more fragrant than the usual scrambled egg. The taste is also more complex. It has sweet, spicy, and umami from seasoning and tomato. The veggies like bok choy and tomato give more texture.

Best combination with warm rice and krupuk. Every bite tastes really wonderful to me. I love it!

If I need to buy it on burjo, it costs around Rp 8.000-10.000. But when I cook it for myself, I just spent like Rp 4.000 for one orak-arik. Yeah, I can save money because I cook it!

Well, maybe it's not 100% similar to the burjo. However, it's not a big deal since it's tasty and suits my taste.
